Beginning with the echoes of a distant folk song, "Flight" gradually illustrates how contemporary artists emerge both from a respect for prior generations and through a spirit of progressive risk-taking. That marriage of dignified poise and dizzying experiment continues to serve Slavic jazz very well indeed.
